PissBox: A Redesign of Dublin's Old Pissoirs
'PissBox' addresses Dublin's lack of public toilet facilities by introducing a sustainable, unisex urinal designed for outdoor public spaces. Inspired by Ireland’s 19th century male-only pissoirs, PissBox reimagines this infrastructure as modern, inclusive, and environmentally friendly. It offers a practical, respectful alternative to current options, aiming to reduce pressure on existing public bathrooms without replacing them.
The unit is fully self-contained, requiring no connection to plumbing, and can be placed wherever needed. Waste is collected in a straw-filled basin that transforms into compostable mulch, making it a mobile, zero-waste solution.
PissBox encourages a rethink of public sanitation while providing accessible, eco-conscious relief for people enjoying Dublin’s outdoor areas.
