Media
The Media department at NCAD embraces a range of contemporary practices working with media technologies, digital spaces and internet cultures. Our graduates have gone on to successful careers in new media art, academia, and across the creative industries.
Supported by a team of specialist staff, students develop critical and technical skills across key areas of media practices: photography, artists’ moving image, physical computing, virtual reality and 3D modelling. Media teaching is underpinned by the discourses connecting old and new media, analogue and digital formats, and the tensions between virtual and physical realities.
Media facilities include computer room, photography studio, analogue darkroom, video studio with green screen, sound studio with surround-sound editing, digital print room, and a ‘hack lab’ project space. The Media department ethos is to support students in becoming informed producers and contributors to the live debates driving and shaping contemporary digital cultures.
