The Border Between Reeds and Ripples
Quentin Dunand is a French visual artist based in Dublin whose work tackles the inherent fragility of living in the 21st century as a neurodivergent queer person. They combine emotional fragility and environmental concerns through the use of analogue video and installation in order to create video pieces that feel both calming and alienating.
Their new series of works focuses on the Portobello Canal as a lens through which to view natural spaces as divine encounters. The work looks at reframing our view of non-human life as a transient and fragile experience. They use corruption and compression as ways of framing these encounters and playing with audiences' expectations towards moving image works. The use of cycles and loops through-out the work remind us of the transience of natural spaces and of life itself.
