Where The Sea Meets Us
Using photography as a means to explore and document the rich marine life found along the coast of Dublin, my practice focuses on the intricate ecosystems within local rock pools, captured through macro photography to reveal the often-overlooked details of these habitats.
This work stems from a concern about the lack of accessible education and public engagement with Ireland’s coastal biodiversity, particularly in Dublin, a city with a deep maritime history. Despite our proximity to the sea, there exists a growing disconnect between the community and the ocean life.
Through my imagery, I aim to re-establish that connection by showcasing the beauty and complexity of marine life that exists just beyond our shorelines. This project advocates for the development of an ethical, research-based public aquarium and other educational initiatives that highlight native species and ecosystems. My goal is to gather a greater appreciation for our local marine environments and to encourage a more informed relationship with the ocean.
