Alexandra Mangan is a printmaker whose practice explores the emotional connections we form with artefacts passed down to us. This exploration is deeply personal, stemming from her experience of inheriting her nana's belongings after her passing.
Her artistic journey has evolved through the collection of personal items, creating an archive that holds cherished memories. Through this process, she introduced the concept of 'imposter objects'—deliberately fabricated items accompanied by invented histories. These objects serve to blur the lines between truth and fiction, reflecting the fragmented and unreliable nature of memory itself.
Alexandra's work is primarily installation-based, exemplified by a series of constructed wooden boxes of varying sizes, functioning as vessels of memory and time, storing artefacts within an archival setting. Accompanying these installations is a series of soft-ground etchings which serve as delicate, tactile pieces that preserve the essence of memory as a way to commemorate.
