Croí na Mban & At What Cost?
Did you know that cardiovascular disease, long mischaracterised as a 'man's disease', kills 1 in 4 women in Ireland? Women remain underrepresented in cardiovascular research, making up only one-third of clinical trial participants.
While much of the available data comes from outside Ireland, this project is designed specifically for Irish women. Recovery programmes are typically tailored with older patients in mind, although 1 in 5 heart attack sufferers are under the age of 40. For this reason, the project’s recovery package caters for women aged 40 and under, who are often overlooked in heart healthcare.
The objective of this project is to raise awareness for the lack of research, diagnosis and treatment when it comes to women and cardiovascular health. It also provides comfort, support, and guidance to encourage women recovering from heart attacks to better understand and care for their heart health during their recovery.
