Drift
'Drift' explores the space between a musical instrument and a fidget device, resulting in a hybrid object designed not for traditional music-making, but for emotional expression, stress relief, and escapism. It attempts to simplify the usability, allowing the user to focus more on the outcome rather than the process, encouraging expression over musical accuracy or virtuosity.
It is intended for users who would like to play an instrument but feel it is inaccessible due to the investment of time required, frustrations from previous experiences and a lack of confidence in their musicality.
It replicates many aspects of a traditional musical instrument and gives the user access to the benefits of playing an instrument outside of producing a structured piece of music.
It is an opportunity to unplug & disconnect from a digital space. Through tactile touch, resonance and expression it encourages self connection over connecting with an audience.
