Shadows of Tomorrow
In this body of work, I explore self-portraiture through the imaginary interplay of light and shadow, working in oil painting and drawing. Shadows are often overlooked due to their ambiguity and mutable presence. I use them as a metaphor for the complexities of identity. Like our sense of self, they change with time, light, and place, mimicking my own experience navigating multiple cultures.
The work reflects on the continuing process of acceptance and maturation. By placing the shadow and the self together on the same surface, I seek to bridge internal divides that cross-cultural identity can create.
This act is both personal and universal, a reflection on wholeness and the layers that shape who we are. My work invites viewers to acknowledge their shadows, offering a quiet, grounding reminder of presence in a consideration of the human condition.
