A Love Letter to my Mothers
This project is a tender offering to the women who came before me. Inspired by my great-grandmother Bridie and the threads that connect my matriline, 'A Love Letter to My Mothers' gathers garments made by Bridie, timeworn letters exchanged across generations, and found objects into an archive of love and memory.
Referencing photographic imagery and creating ‘artefact labels’ through print, stitching, and appliqué, these textile processes mirror domestic routines of structure and repetition, blending tradition with the modern technology my great-grandmother admired. These tactile methods honour the sacred labour of making, keeping, and protecting. It is a lineage kept alive not only in monuments, but in mended seams, folded cards, and things too easily overlooked.
As a final gesture, I created three antimacassars for the armchair passed down to me, quiet protectors for a seat once held by those I love. This piece closes the work with stillness, and with the protection of memory.
