Sense of Direction
A personal poor sense of direction provides the genesis for the title of this project. The work poses questions from both a simple and existential point of view:
Do we have a good sense of direction?
Do we know where we are going?
Are we making a good choice?
A pair of books explore the journey of self-doubt when making decisions. The text monologue is supported with illustrations associated with maps, suggesting buildings and landscapes, but with scant information reinforcing the feeling of disorientation. While being lost can be uncomfortable and paralysing, it can be a place of discovery and growth. An accompanying animation offers a more playful experience of directions based on intuition. Handmade lenticular signs provide a confusing set of directions, with different images and information appearing, depending on where they are viewed from.
