Wired Differently & SPOCUS
The imagery, graphs and other visual representations around neurodiversity are of interest to me, in particular, extracting positives from what is normally deemed negative.
Many people describe their neurodiversity as giving them "superpowers"- one of which is the ability to become hyper focused on a specific topic or theme. I use the symbol of a crosshair to denote focus, it is used in print to register colour and as a viewfinder on many devices. Outside the crosshair, I have used colour, texture and off centre shapes to represent non-focused aspects of the spectrum. Combined together, 'Spectrum' and 'Focus' create 'SPOCUS!'
Another recurring phrase in neurodivergent communities is the idea of being "wired differently". In response, I designed a jewellery piece that is wired differently: an asymmetrical necklace that sits off-balance, using texture, colour, and contrasting forms to symbolise neurodivergent perception.
