Lapse in Locality
How does one conform to the Dublin college lifestyle when unable to afford the capital’s insurmountable accommodation expenses? My practice depicts my experience with Ireland’s cost of living crisis and how it has forever changed my perspective of my hometown of Courtown, County Wexford. As arrows of light pierce through the SouthEast sky, harsh shadows land and direct my attention to the time-lapse that has occurred since my bachelor’s degree began.
The formalities of my current practice consists of a muted two-colour palette, opaque MDF boards pinned upon stretcher frames and a measured approach to mark-making. Through paint, I tear my hometown down to its bare essentials by capturing a uniform angle of a common location shared by many of the working-class population across the nation.
