Gathering Ear
‘Gathering Ear’ is a series that delves into anatomy, examining what certain body parts can mean to different people. This body of work is about ears, especially sensory-related struggles and hearing problems.
My connection with ears relates to my own damaged hearing caused by regularly going to concerts without hearing protection/ earplugs. The struggles that I live with every day are as a result of not being able to hear as well as I once was. I struggle with sensory problems and feeling as though things get too loud, constantly feeling as if I’m stuck between it being too loud or too quiet. Each piece that is made, is an expression of these struggles, transforming a struggle into something more beautiful.
At the heart of the work is a desire to help others realise their own connections with things that are often taken for granted, such as being listened to.
