Ever-rest
'Ever-rest' is a body of work situated in themes of sleep, restfulness, and the space between waking and sleeping. This in between space is explored through focus on shadows and light, the uncertainty of what we see with half-lidded eyes upon waking or drifting off to sleep.
The landscape created by sleeping/waking is crucial to my work, my current series of copper plate etchings shows the unmade bedsheets as an impression of sleep. Bedsheets become mountain-like structures, landscapes left behind by a restless night, or rushed awakening, the title of the work being a nod to this visual similarity.
My work intends to create a sense of calm and restfulness within the audience, I aim to recreate the feeling of the body becoming tired and beginning to settle as sleep takes over. Through use of projection, print and drawing I hope to allow the viewer to achieve this state.
