Unseen Women
This project explores the unseen consequences of gender data bias, particularly in relation to unpaid domestic labour and its impact on women’s financial and physical wellbeing. Rooted in research around time poverty and global inequalities, it examines how traditional gender roles continue to place a disproportionate burden on women—limiting their economic opportunities and, in many cases, endangering their health.
From the overlooked financial value of housework in developed countries, to the life-threatening effects of cooking without clean fuel in others, this work asks: why is women’s labour so often ignored, and what are the consequences of that erasure?
The data we rely on to shape policy and innovation frequently ignore or undervalue women’s lived experiences. This project aims to make these hidden realities more visible and accessible, using storytelling and visual communication to highlight how design can challenge ingrained assumptions, and bring attention to the gaps in our collective understanding.
