A Day in the Office
An intense observer and overthinker – traits that have not always served me well in life, but have enriched my attempts to draw. My drawings usually interrogate every day, unremarkable concepts by breaking them into their component parts. This project began as a broad exploration of seasons, but quickly evolved into a careful study of how light, shadows, and the trees that cast them, subtly transform from winter into spring. My work is granular, delicate, and monochromatic, best suited for the smaller scale. I typically prefer a combination of carefully observed drawings supported by scientific data, and work with graphite or pen, using tracing and carbon paper, and occasionally linoprint, to incorporate layering and repetition.
Recently, I have been drawn to the unpredictability of ink and charcoal, reluctantly allowing chance to play a role in my work, and I look forward to where that takes me.
