Double Regard
My work is a painting and visual installation project that explores how, as a foreigner, you perceive your new surroundings. My cultural background and artistic influences are French, but they are now merging with my new Irish roots. Although Ireland is not far from France geographically, it is a completely different country—yet the two share certain similarities.
In this project, I have represented the superposition of my two points of view to play with the viewer’s eye, creating a sense of confusion. I used stripes, layered linear full-screen images, and painting techniques of the past trying to make them contemporary.
Using all those techniques, I aim to create an image full of references creating a new image of Ireland that can be mine and yours.
