Fragments of Home
I am a painter based in Kilkenny, whose work explores the emotional and material connections to place. My process begins in the countryside around Graiguenamanagh and Gowran, where I walk, observe, and draw. These drawings become the foundation for my studio practice, where I experiment with line, mark-making, and composition—deciding what to keep, what to fade, and what to cut away.
I use cut-out canvas and varied marks to build layered, rhythmic compositions. Areas of clarity sit beside diffused or empty spaces, echoing how memory can soften or distort a once-familiar landscape. I’m influenced by artists like Francisco Castro and Asta Kulikauskaitė, whose approaches to surface and fading inform how I work with fragmentation.
My paintings move between representation and abstraction, using absence and stroke to reflect on how we remember. They are quiet reflections on home, filtered through memory, distance, and the passing of time.
