Gan Teanga, Gan Fiacla
'Gan Teanga, Gan Fiacla (No Tongue, No Teeth)' is a project about what it means to grow up in a multicultural household, speaking multiple languages. This project explores themes of belonging, identity, and finding your true self.
The 'Relic' booklet takes inspiration from the green and gold of old Irish passports. This book is a window into the past - like rummaging through an attic and uncovering forgotten stories. A graphic novel tells of the artist’s personal journey through languages, across countries, in an attempt to find a sense of belonging.
The textile piece, hand-sewn and hand-beaded, connects different senses to different places. Tart blackberries, fresh rain, and rolling green hills represent Ireland. Bright sunshine, sweet cherries and technicolor seashells represent France.
