Evergreen
'Evergreen' explores the way humans are inextricably linked to the objects we make—how tools act as a bridge between our bodies and the environment around us, and how, as a result, they come to reflect us. We recognise ourselves in them and use them to shape the world around us.
Some pieces reflect the melding of body and tool; others explore the imagery of the body as a tool itself—in the way a door handle might bring to mind a handshake.
Using a variety of techniques—from clay sculpting to object scanning and 3D modelling—and a wide range of materials including pewter, resin, silver, and found objects, I have constructed pieces that mimic the tools we use and examine and the relationship they have to our bodies.
Each piece is branded with the word ‘Evergreen’—a mark that reflects this fundamental link no matter the body or the tool.
