Flora Iridescence
Inspired by the land artist Andy Goldsworthy and my affinity for nature, this body of work employs Irish wild flowers as symbols of female identity and our environment.
Man’s need to interfere with nature is damaging to us and our environment. We covet the idea of the ‘Natural’ yet our daily lives are removed from it. The cultivation of flowers and fruit has changed nature and the natural. Similarly, women’s consumption of beauty and wellness products that are marketed to care for our body, yet these very products often care less about nature.
My process and techniques are enlivened with the use of light. Light is a personification of nature and the natural. But it too can be contaminated. In an electrified and digital world, light is under appreciated. Yet light is fundamental to life. Light is constantly changing, evoking connectivity with nature and the natural force.
