届かぬ場所: The Place I Don’t Reach
I’m a painter interested in selfhood, distance, and the idea of journeying. I often use repeated self-portraiture and symbolic forms, such as circles, to reflect on transformation and a quiet desire to move beyond the limits of the self. My paintings tend to be still and dreamlike, existing between the real and the imagined.
Mirrored figures and fabric appear frequently, creating a sense of pause and reflection. I work with limited colour palettes, often in monochrome, and my process is intuitive, centred on rhythm, stillness, and repetition.
While my work isn’t explicitly about Japan, my heritage naturally informs my aesthetic choices. I often use the kimono as a visual motif- not as cultural commentary, but for its shape, rhythm, and form. I’m also strongly influenced by the flatness and composition of ukiyo-e prints, which inform how I construct space within my paintings.
