Frameworks
My work is inspired by tessellation and geometry in architecture. Through the use of repeated shapes and patterns, I create reflections of abstract architectural possibilities. My current body of work is imbued with the materiality of drawing, using stencilling and soft ground etching to develop forms persuaded by line direction.
'Frameworks' expands upon the boundaries of the copper plate, constructing illusions of three-dimensional forms. These works interrupt the limitations of traditional print, making the embossing of the copper plate an innate part of the work itself. Rooted in the concept of the built environment, this installation incorporates wood as both a matrix and a method of display, creating a conversation between ephemerality and the urban landscape.
This work explores structures from the outside looking in, focusing on the impact windows have on architectural aesthetics, windows are the eyes of a building, offering a glance into the soul of a structure.
