Settle Éire: A Smarter Start for New Irish
This project explores how design can ease the immigrant experience for newcomers in Ireland, especially international students navigating housing, healthcare, and cultural confusion. Despite the presence of official resources, many face fragmented information, bureaucratic hurdles, and emotional isolation. Inspired by apps like Ankommen (Germany) and Welcome App (Netherlands), this project uses a hybrid methodology—Human-Centred Design, Service Design, and Participatory Design—to co-create more accessible, empathetic onboarding experiences.
Through surveys, interviews, postcard activities, and co-design workshops, the project surfaces real-world insights and unmet needs. The outcome will be a prototype (digital or service-based) that supports smoother transitions for immigrants, focusing on practical tools and cultural understanding. It aims to inform institutions and spark broader conversations about inclusion, empathy, and better design for integration. With humour and honesty, the project asks: how can we make the first 90 days feel less like survival—and more like arrival?
