Seasons of Reflection
Using a colourful semi-pointillism style, I paint familiar landscapes where the light and reflections add an ethereal quality to the scene. I explore mirroring light, memory, and contemplation using acrylics on canvas through the core idea 'Seasons of Reflection'.
Influenced by the likes of Van Gogh, Monet, and Grace Henry, it is their use of colour and painterly style that I admire most. They help me to remember to loosen up while painting and to go beyond simply trying to replicate my reference image. To start, I conduct a photographic study of areas, and explore my favourites through digital editing, and preparatory sketches using charcoal and watercolours. This allows me to experiment with colour and composition before moving onto acrylics on canvas. I paint to honour the moment by making something from it and turning it into something else, like a transfer of energy.
