Stations of the Art World
My artistic exploration delves into Art through the lens of value and worth, examining the value afforded to it by the Art market, and the worth attributed to it by the individual. This allows the physical object to become a repository of something intangible. My art aims to highlight the impact different forms of value- spiritual, financial, religious- have on our experience of Art, and our behaviours towards it.
My research focused on the ritualistic nature of devotional shrines, and the creation of religious artworks to facilitate veneration and worship. This artwork's intention is to spark conversation about the commodification of Art through the high-value Art market and the exclusionary nature of this practice. Drawing the viewer’s attention toward the disconnect between Art and people through its commercialisation.
Through expanded print practice, I replicate the intentional and private act of creating shrines, inspired by the “Stations of the Cross”.
