Where Your Money Goes
The brief for this project stemmed from a need to make public spending more understandable, accessible, and engaging for the general public. The Department of Public Expenditure, National Development Plan Delivery and Reform (DPENDR) has identified that while their platform WhereYourMoneyGoes.gov.ie provides important information about government expenditure, it falls short in terms of interactivity, clarity, and emotional connection.
This project is an opportunity to carry out in-depth research into how people engage with financial data, how transparency can be enhanced through design, and what storytelling methods make complex information meaningful to non-expert users. The goal is to redesign 'Where Your Money Goes' as a tool that empowers citizens to explore, question, and better understand how public funds are allocated and used. Ultimately, the project aims to strengthen public trust and engagement through an intuitive, narrative-driven, and inclusive digital platform.
The solution will be a platform redesign towards more interactivity, accessibility, responsiveness, and intuitive navigation. It will be a further customised and inclusive experience for all social classes and across varying levels of digital literacy. The aim is to create a dynamic and engaging online space where users can interact with financial data in a meaningful and informative way.
